This program will prepare you for employment as a radiologic technologist (x-ray technologist) or as a diagnostic medical sonographer (ultrasound technologist).
As a student enrolled in the Medical Imaging Sciences Program you will:
- Receive comprehensive advising and mentoring from seasoned allied health faculty

- Join the Medical Imaging Sciences Club (offered at both Clarion and Venango campus) and benefit from activities that will help you develop leadership skills and gain a better understanding of your major and your chosen profession

Additionally, Clarion's program prepares bachelor's prepared graduates to advance in the science and practice of medical imaging. The program also provides a foundation for graduate education in masters and doctoral programs.

- Medical dosimetry
Note: The nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and medical dosimetry concentrations are appropriate only for individuals who are already credentialed professionals in one of these three medical imaging fields.
Employment in this field is projected to grow 9 percent from 2020-30, as fast as average for all occupations. As the population grows older, there will be in increase in medical conditions that require imaging as a tool for making diagnoses. TWO Program Options
1. Online Degree Completion for Credentialed Medical Imaging Professionals
Program Option 1: Online Degree Completion for Credentialed Medical Imaging Professionals
Clarion Online enables medical imaging professionals who are already credentialed radiologic technologists, diagnostic medical sonographers, nuclear medicine technologists, radiation therapists, or medical dosimetrists to earn your bachelor's degree by taking convenient online courses.
Online course work allows you to take classes where and when you need them and to build your academic schedules around work and family responsibilities.
Depending on the type and length of medical imaging sciences educational program that
you have completed, Clarion will grant up to 60 clinical credits 
toward the BS, Medical Imaging Sciences degree to the following:
- Registered radiologic technologists who have completed a JRCERT-accredited radiologic technology program or a program offered in a college or university that holds regional accreditation by a regional U.S. Accreditation Commission
- Credentialed diagnostic medical sonographers who have completed a sonography educational program accredited by CAAHEP through the JRCDMS or a program offered in a college or university
- Credentialed nuclear medicine technologists who have completed a JRCNMT-accredited nuclear medicine program
- Credentialed radiation therapists who have completed a JRCERT-accredited radiation therapy program
- Credentialed medical dosimetrists who have completed a JRCERT-accredited medical dosimetry
60-credit science and general education curriculum plan for the medical imaging sciences program
Clinical credits are awarded by Clarion's Department of Nutrition, Health and Sport Sciences on a case-by-case basis with consideration given to program accreditation, program length and content, the applicant's performance in the program, and professional credentialing of the applicant.
Transfer Student Information
General education credits that have already been earned at other colleges and universities will
be considered for transfer in accordance with Clarion University's transfer policy and may apply toward course work required for the BS, Medical Imaging Sciences degree program.
Up to 90 previously earned credits may be applied toward Clarion's 120-credit bachelor's
degree.
2. On-Campus Program at either Clarion or Venango campus
This option is for individuals who are not yet credentialed medical imaging professionals. Students who earn Clarion University's 120-credit BS, Medical Imaging Sciences choose between the radiologic technology or ultrasound (sonography) concentration. Both concentrations are designed as two-plus-two programs. The programs have an academic preparation of two years (60 semester hours of science and general education) and students can choose to complete these courses at either the Clarion campus or Venango campus. The radiologic technology concentration continues with a two-year program of clinical study (60 semester hours) at one of several JRCERT-accredited, hospital-based schools of radiologic technology. The ultrasound concentration continues with a two-year program of clinical study in sonography (60 semester hours) at Great Lakes Institute of Technology.
Living Learning Communities (LLC's) provide students the opportunity to live in an environment with others who share similar academic and career interests. Students live and attend classes together, form study groups, and explore common career aspirations.

Important Information about the Diagnostic Sonography Program
Application to Affiliated Clinical Schools
Application to an affiliated clinical site in radiologic technology or sonography typically occurs in the second semester of the sophomore year.
Admission to a clinical site is at the discretion of the staff of the clinical site and is competitive. Admission to medical imaging sciences program at Clarion University does not guarantee admission to a clinical program.
In addition to completing all science and general education requirements of the medical imaging sciences program, students pursuing the radiologic technology concentration must also complete a two-year program in radiologic technology at a clinical school with which Clarion University affiliates.
Students who have completed all 60 credits of science and general education course work required of the medical imaging sciences program are recommended as candidates for admission to affiliated clinical schools.

APPLICATION TO AFFILIATED CLINICAL SCHOOL - ULTRASOUND CONCENTRATION
In addition to completing all science and general education requirements of the medical imaging sciences program, students pursuing the ultrasound concentration must also complete the sonography program at Great Lakes Institute of Technology. Application to Great Lakes typically occurs in the second semester of the sophomore year.
Students who have completed all 60 credits of science and general education course work required of the medical imaging sciences program are recommended as candidates for admission to Great Lakes.
Admission to Great Lakes Institute of Technology is at the discretion of the admissions committee of Great Lakes Institute of Technology. Admission to the medical imaging sciences program at Clarion University does not guarantee admission to Great Lakes Institute of Technology.
Program Eligibility and Admission
On campus option: Admission to the general education portion of the medical imaging sciences program is based on Clarion University's standard admission criteria. Medical imaging science students are required to maintain a minimum 2.0 QPA and earn grades of "C" or higher in all required science, major, and clinical courses.
Admission to a clinical school in radiologic technology or sonography is at the discretion of the clinical schools' admissions committees and is competitive. Admission to the medical imaging sciences program at Clarion University does not guarantee admission to a clinical school in radiologic technology or ultrasound (sonography).
Accreditation
The Radiologic Technology programs with which Clarion affiliates for the medical imaging sciences program are accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and the Ultrasound (Sonography) program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

The Medical Imaging Sciences Club can help you make connections outside of regular coursework. Diverse activities provide you with a high degree of participation that leads to personal enrichment and growth. The club fosters camaraderie among medical imaging science majors while providing unique opportunities to explore the health care arena. Leadership skills that you develop as a result of club, campus, and community involvement position you for success as future health care professionals.
