Important Dates - Please note that semester and summer schedules for all CSD externs, Library Science interns, and REHAB interns are determined individually by their relative departments.  For more specific information regarding these field experiences, please contact the department secretary.

Sign-in 8:30-9:00; Morning session from 8:00 – 11:45 a.m.; Lunch on your own 11:45- 12:45 p.m.; Afternoon session from 1:00-2:30.

 

Important Calendar Dates

Student Teacher Schedule – Fall 2008

  •  August 25, 2008– Student Teacher Orientation in the Gemmell Complex from 9 AM to 3:30 PM beginning with registration at 8:30 AM.

  • August 26, 2008 – Report to First Assignment

  • October 17, 2008 – End of First Course/Placement Assignment.

  • October 20, 2008  – Begin Second Course/Placement Assignment.

  • October 20, 2008 – All Early Childhood, Elementary Education, and Social Studies majors, including dual majors beginning their Elementary Education assignments WHO HAVE NEW SUPERVISORS IN THEIR SECOND PLACEMENTS will meet their NEW supervisors from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at the Gemmell Complex. This will be one of the required supervisor meetings for the second half of the student teaching experience. Those student teachers who have the same supervisor for both placements may be excused from this meeting by their supervisor.

  • Sometime in either October or November (check the Clarion University Career services website) – IF APPROVED BY BOTH THE UNIVERSITY STUDENT TEACHING SUPERVISOR AND THE COOPERATING TEACHER, student teachers may attend the Slippery Rock University Education Job Fair on the SRU campus.  This is an excused absence from your placement for the day. 

  • December 10, 2008 – Last Day of Student Teaching.

Methods/Block/PDC-S Block/Extended Field Experience  Schedule– Fall 2008

Seminar registration begins at 8:30 AM.
All seminars begin promptly at 9 AM. 
Semester begins January 12, 2009

PLEASE NOTE: Elementary Block students are required to attend the Sept. 28 seminars.  Attendance will be taken and given to the Elementary Math Block professor.

K-12 and secondary methods students should attend if they have no course schedule conflicts.  These students are encouraged to attend and may leave to go to class when necessary.  Seminars will begin at 9 AM and end by 11:30 AM.  Casual attire is acceptable.

  • Friday, September 26, 2008 - Seminar 1: School Law; Seminar 2: Introduction to Student Teaching, 9 to 11:30 Gemmell Multi-Purpose Room

  • First Friday Block – October 24, 2008

  • Second Friday Block – October 31, 2008

  • Full Block begins Monday, November 3, and ends Friday, November 21, 2008.

  • Friday, Friday, December 5, 2008, “Job Search Seminar for Education Majors” sponsored by the Career Services Center in Gemmell Multi-Purpose Room.
    Sign-in 8:30-9:00; Morning session from 9:00 – 11:45 a.m.; Lunch on your own 11:45- 12:45 p.m.; Afternoon session from 1:00-2:30

     Professional Development Community-School (PDC-S) Elementary Block program at Brockway Elementary School begins August 26, 2008 and continues until November 21, 2008.  Students will schedule a minimum of 5 hours per week with their Cooperating teacher until November 3, at which point each student will follow the regular block schedule.  The student will then return to the same cooperating teacher for the spring student teaching experience.

     Extended Field Experience Program students will begin the extra 12 hours per week for ELED and ELED dual majors or an extra 6 hours per week for secondary education majors in their placement during the week of September 22, 2008, and continue throughout the semester until November 3, 2008. From November 3 through November 21, 2008, the ELED and ELED dual major students will follow the full-day placement schedule, and the secondary education major students will follow the half-day morning schedule. The Extended Field Experience will end on Friday, November 21, 2008.

  • Friday, April 24, 2009 – Seminar 2: Preparing for a Job Search in the Education Field, seminar sponsored by the Office of Career Services, held in Level A of the Library.   The seminar will run from 8:00am to 2:30pm.

     Extended Field Experience Program students will begin the extra 12 hours per week for ELED and ELED dual majors or an extra 6 hours per week for secondary education majors in their placement during the week of February 2, 2009, and continue throughout the semester until March 20, 2009.
