FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Funding for research, creative activity or programs can be accessed through a variety of sources. PennWest Clarion is committed to supporting faculty, Student and staff endeavors both with the use of internal funding opportunities and administrative support in seeking external funding opportunities.

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

The undergraduate research committee provides three opportunities for research support:

  1. Undergraduate students in any program may apply for grants for research in any scholarly, creative, entrepreneurial and civic project. Students may apply for support up to $800. Applications are typically due early fall semester. For more information, contact Dr. Susan Prezzano.
  2. The undergraduate student research/scholarship travel grant. Graduate and undergraduate students may apply for travel support funds up to $500 for the presentation of research, creative or scholarly activities. This program has a rolling deadline for submission. For more information, click on the link or contact Dr. Susan Prezzano.
  3. Undergraduate research opportunity network. Here you will find current postings for volunteer undergraduate research opportunities. Please contact the faculty member indicated for more information to participate in a transformative experience.

The graduate research committee provides an annual opportunity for research support

  1. For graduate students enrolled in any program for grants for research in any scholarly, creative, entrepreneurial or civic project. Graduate students may apply for up to $1,000 to support independent research or a scholarly project. Applications are due mid-November. For more information, click on the link or contact Dr. Susan Prezzano.  This is part of the Academic Excellence Series and requires a presentation at the Academic Excellence Series.

INTERNAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR FACULTY AND STAFF

UNIVERSITY WIDE FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Faculty are encouraged to apply for internal funding that supports projects that allow for faculty development as teachers as well as multidisciplinary projects and seed research. Awards will be made up to $1,000/individual or $2,500/group. Annual application deadline is early December. For more information, please review the guidelines and application.

PennWest Clarion COMMUNITY FELLOWS GRANT

Faculty and staff are encouraged to partner with community members and nonprofit organizations to strengthen the campus' public mission. Awards granted up to $1,000 with annual application deadline early December. For more information, please review the Community Fellows guidelines and application.

PASSHE Faculty Development Grants

Faculty also are encouraged to apply for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Faculty Development Grants. To determine eligibility, please review the general information and guidelines.

PROVOST 2:1 MATCH

Faculty and staff who are presenting a refereed paper, poster, serving on a panel or as a chair at a recognized disciplinary conference can receive supplemental funds from the Provost office to defray travel costs. Applicants can only receive one award per year and the provost will match $2 for each $1 provided by the applicant's college. Limits do apply based on type of involvement and can be found below.

  1. Refereed Paper/Poster Presentations at International/National Disciplinary Conferences. Up to $800 from Provost's Office ($2 for every $1 from the college - $1,200 total support)
  2. Refereed Paper/Poster Presentations at Regional Disciplinary Conferences. Up to $400 from Provost's Office ($2 for every $1 from the college - $600 total support)
  3. Participation on Conference Panels, Chairing Conference Sessions, Conference/Disciplinary Officers at Disciplinary Conferences. Up to $300 from Provost's Office ($2 for every $1 from the college - $450 total support)

EXTERNAL FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

The grants can provide assistance in identifying potential funding sources. Faculty and staff can also identify funding sources by talking with colleagues, visiting individual websites of sponsors (i.e. National Science Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts), or by searching online databases like grants.gov and SPIN.

Grants.gov is an access point for more than 1,000 grant programs offered by all Federal grant-making agencies.
