Dr. Rankin has presented and published widely on the impact of sexism, racism and heterosexism in the academy and in intercollegiate athletics. Dr. Rankin's current research focuses on the assessment of institutional climate and providing program planners and policymakers with recommended strategies to improve the campus climate for under-served communities. Dr. Rankin has collaborated with over 90 institutions/organizations in implementing assessments and developing action plans. In her advocacy work, Dr. Rankin is a founding member of the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals and the Statewide Pennsylvania Rights Coalition. Dr. Rankin is the recipient of the ACPA 2008 Voice of Inclusion Medallion. Her recent publications include The Lives of Transgender People, Campus Pride 2012 LGBT College Athlete National Report and 2010 State of Higher Education for LGBT People.

Featured Speaker: Larry Pickett
Larry Pickett serves as a project manager at Highmark in the Strategic Planning & Operational Excellence Department. He supports enterprise-wide projects and initiatives at Highmark. His primary role includes leadership strategies, trend analysis, project management and six sigma methodologies. He partners with functional and line-of-business managers to successfully deliver outcomes pertaining to core business needs. In this capacity, he leads initiatives that are designed to increase organizational performance and reduce operating expenses. Larry uses data to drive business decisions. He also uses statistics, charts and graphs to evaluate return on investment (ROI). He is a certified six sigma black belt (CSSBB) and a certified project manager.
Larry earned his M.B.A. degree in Management of Technologies from California University of Pennsylvania, M.S. degree in Leadership and Liberal Studies from Duquesne University, and his B.A. degree from Clarion University. He is a member of the Juran Institute, The Conference Board-Council for Six Sigma Executives, Smart Futures Board of Directors, Pittsburgh Chess Club, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Larry is a former member of the Clarion University Board of Trustees. Larry is passionate about education and describes himself as a life-long learner. He and his wife, Melissa, are the proud parents of two daughters, Erica and Dilana.
