Borrowing period: Books from the general collection circulate for thirty (30) days. Media materials such as videos, DVDs, CDs and cassette tapes circulate for fourteen (14) days. Periodicals which are less than 10 years old may be checked out for one (1) day. Periodicals which are 10 years old or older may be checked out for seven (7) days. If there is no hold on the material, it may be renewed for a second borrowing period.
Maximum items: The maximum number of items which can be checked out at one time is twenty (20).
Fines: The daily fine rate for all materials belonging to the Clarion University Libraries is twenty (20) cents per day per item with the following exception.Periodical and Reserve material that become overdue accrue fines at the rate of one dollar ($1) per day per item.
Maximum fines: The maximum amount of fines charged against any overdue item is ten dollars ($10).
Lost Item Processing Fees: An item is declared “lost” when it is forty-nine (49) days overdue.The library system automatically charges the patron twenty dollars ($20) as a Lost Item Processing Fee to help cover the costs associated with ordering and processing (shipping, cataloging, bar-coding, labeling, etc.) a replacement copy. Library staff will assure that the patron is also charged the appropriate lost item replacement fees.
Lost Item Replacement Fees: The library will charge the replacement cost for the item lost or for an approved title similar in nature. Library staff will consult Books in Print, Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble.com or a similar source to obtain the appropriate replacement cost. If availability and cost information can not be found through one of these sources, the library technician responsible for acquisitions / ordering will be consulted. If he/she can not identify the cost of the item, the collection development coordinator or dean will be consulted and a decision will be made on whether to charge the purchase price, an estimated price for a comparable replacement, or the following default prices:

Note: If a patron prefers to replace the lost material in lieu of paying the Lost Item Replacement Fees, he or she may do so with approval of the collection development librarian or dean. However, the Lost Item Processing Fee of twenty dollars ($20) must still be paid.
Items Returned after Lost Item Fee is Paid: On occasion, patrons will return materials that have been declared “lost” and have been billed and paid for replacement.The Library has the option of whether or not to accept the returned item and refund the replacement fee depending upon: 1) condition of the item, and 2) if the library has already replaced the item. Materials must generally be returned within four months of the original charge date in order to be credited for the Lost Item Replacement Fees.Library staff will credit the patron’s account for the Lost Item Replacement Fee and the Lost Item Processing Fee, but not accrued fines.
