My name is Lou Ann Bonnett. Ensuring quality early care and learning experiences has been a passion of mine since I was in high school - many, many years ago. While I have taught nursery school, served as a Special Needs Coordinator for Head Start, worked in early learning centers, directed early childhood programs, and served as a national trainer for early intervention providers, the majority of my professional experience has been as a developmental specialist, working home-based with infants and toddlers who were born with disabilities or had developmental delays and their families.
My teaching certifications in elementary education, special education and early childhood education were earned at Slippery Rocky State College (bachelor degree) and Slippery Rock University (Master of Education degree). After working 10 years as the Director/Developmental Specialist for the early intervention program in Butler, PA, I moved to Colorado to earn my Doctorate degree in educational psychology with a concentration in child and family studies at the University of Denver. While in Denver, I also served as coordinator and developmental specialist for a home-based early intervention program.
Clarion has been my home for the past 12 years, and I have been teaching in Clarion University’s early childhood education programs since moving to Clarion. Through my experiences, I have had the pleasure of meeting many amazing and diverse families and working with excellent and highly competent colleagues, who have all taught me many valuable lessons.
When not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, walking my dog, going to concerts and traveling and taking pictures. My husband, stepson and I live together with our dog, a Brittany Spaniel. My stepson has recently graduated from Clarion University, and my stepdaughter is finishing her degree at Clarion University.
