Honorary Degree Recipients
Clarion University will award its first-ever joint honorary degrees at its Spring 2012 commencement proceedings to alumna Jane France and her husband Chris Allison. After more than 20 years in management in the banking and investments fields, Jane has served on the Board of Directors for the Clarion University Foundation, Inc. since 2007 and is active as a volunteer in her community. Following nine years as chairman and CEO of Tollgrade Communications, Inc., Chris devotes his time to teaching and writing, serving on the boards of several educational organizations, and volunteering in his community. Together, Jane and Chris have established the France-Allison Honors Scholarship Endowment and the Jane France & Chris Allison Endowment to advance entrepreneurial endeavors of the Clarion University Foundation, Inc. They have also provided generous support for other initiatives benefitting Clarion students.
For their exemplary commitment to excellence and dedication to service, Jane France and Chris Allison will each receive the honorary Doctor of Public Service degree.
Janice M. Grunenwald
President's Medallion Recipient
As the spouse of former Clarion University President Joseph Grunenwald, Janice Grunenwald served as a valued ambassador and volunteer for the university for over 30 years. Her efforts in fundraising and alumni and community relations helped to advance Clarion's mission and goals. Janice also used her special gifts as a pianist, organist, and music teacher to help prepare many student vocalists and instrumentalists and as an accompanist for the Clarion University Concert Choir as well as university and visiting artists. In 2008, she established the Slanco-Grunenwald Scholarship, which provides support for incoming freshman music majors.
For her extraordinary and distinguished service to Clarion University, Janice Grunenwald will receive the President's Medallion Award at the 2:00 p.m. commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12, 2012.
