What is my e-mail address?

Clarion University e-mail addresses have the format of username@clarion.edu

A Student username at Clarion University always begins with s_followed by the first initial of your first name, middle initial (if available), and the last name in all lower case.  Usernames have a maximum of 12 characters.

Example:  s_jlsmith

If two people have the same name, a number "one" is added to the end of the name; i.e. s_jlsmith1.  If the duplicate name is longer than 12 characters, the name will be shortened and a number "one" added as the 12th character.

Your username can be found by doing a name search under the Employees tab or the Students tab in the tools area (upper-left corner).

 

Passwords

Your initial password is a 13-digit number including your nine-digit Social Security Number (SSN) and four-digit month/date of birth (no spaces, no hyphens). For example, a password of "3334455550306" is an SSN of 333445555 with a month and date of birth of March 6 (0306). You must add zeros to months and dates under ten to make up the thirteen digits.

For security purposes, we recommend you change your password after your initial login.  Instructions can be found by clicking on the lock and key in the bottom, left-hand corner of the iClarion Portal My iClarion page (or click here for the direct link). 

For added security, change your password monthly.  If you have password problems and are a Clarion Campus student, visit the Help Desk at G-13, Still Hall with a valid Clarion photo ID.  If you are off-campus at other locations, call the Computing Services Help Desk at 393-2640.

 

How can I access my e-mail?

You can access your e-mail via the web from the iClarion Portal. . Simply logon to iClarion and select the e-mail icon.. Please review the iClarion E-mail Guide documentation for details.

You can also access your Clarion University e-mail with various mail user agent programs (i.e. Outlook, Outlook Express, Mac Mail, or Entourage).  Following are the server settings that are required to configure a mail user agent program:

Incoming Mail Server:  pop3mail.clarion.edu
Outgoing Mail Server:  smtpmail.clarion.edu

Important:  Note that the Clarion outgoing mail server (smtpmail.clarion.edu) is only available from on-campus!  If you are sending e-mail from off-campus, your outgoing mail must be configured to use the outgoing mail server (aka smtp server) specified by your internet service provider.

FAQ's:

Q: When I click on Email, the browser says "done" at the bottom but the email screen is blank (or the system immediately logs me out). What's happening?
A: Your web browser is blocking pages from the E-mail Center. Make sure your pop-up blocker is turned off for the iClarion portal site.

Q: Where can I learn more about the features of the iClarion E-mail Center web interface?

A: Please review the iClarion E-mail Guide. The iClarion E-mail Center also includes on-line help. Click the Help icon in the upper right corner of each page.

Q:  How much space do I have for my e-mail account?

A: Default quotas are 10MB for students and 20MB for employees.

Q:  How do I know how much space I am currently using?

A: From the iClarion E-mail Center , view the top panel of the message list with the Inbox and note the message that reads "You are using n% of your mail quota".

Q:  Why am I unable to receive any new e-mail?

A: You may have exceeded your available disk quota. Login to the iClarion Portal, access the iClarion E-mail Center, and delete the messages you no longer need. Make sure to empty your Delete Folder too.

Q:  I exceeded my quota then cleaned it up. Will I be able to get the messages that were missed?

A: No, but the messages would have bounced back to the sender as undeliverable.
