Debate Team – Scholarship Opportunities

Clarion’s Debate Team is proud to be able to provide scholarship opportunities for members of the team. Scholarships are available for both returning and incoming students. Awards are based on debate success and take academic and need-based factors into account. For more detailed information please contact  Jim Lyle, Director of the Speech & Debate Program at 814-393-2476.

Dr. Mary R. Hardwick SCT Scholarship

This scholarship established to honor Dr. Mary Hardwick, former professor in the SCT department, a gifted artist and dedicated educator. Students majoring in SCT are eligible for consideration for this award. Please contact SCT department chair at 814-393-2284.

These scholarships are available to returning Clarion University Speech & Debate Team members.  The award is designed to recognize a member of the team who has demonstrated outstanding ability in both their debate and academic lives.  Contact the Speech & Debate Team Coach for further information on procedures to apply for the awards.

Mass Media Arts & Journalism Department Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship awarded annually by department members on the basis of academic achievement, involvement in the Communication Department and community service. Additional information can be obtained from the Communication Department chair at 814-393-2245.

James H. Cole Scholarship

Annually, a scholarship in honor of James D. Cole, former Dean of the School of Mass Media Arts & Journalism, is directed toward second semester undergraduates majoring in Mass Media Arts & Journalism with no fewer than 15 credits and no more than 32 credits. Final selection made by department members on the basis of academic achievement, involvement in the department and community service.

James J. Canelos Scholarship

Annually a scholarship in memory of alumnus J.J. Canelos is offered to a junior Mass Media Arts & Journalism major. Eligibility requires a minimum QPA of 3.4. Final selection is made by department members on the basis of academic record, contribution to the Communication Department and the university, participation in extracurricular activities, and financial need.
