Clarion University commemorates MLK on 50th anniversary of assassination

MLK statueClarion University will join a nationwide remembrance of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

At 6:30 p.m. April 4, the campus and community are invited to gather at the bell tower on Wood Street. Joseph Croskey will welcome those attending and speak words of encouragement, followed by brief remarks by student leaders.

At 7:01 p.m., the bells will toll 39 times to recognize the time and age of passing of Dr. King.
The service will conclude with Dr. Brenda Dede, associate vice president of academic affairs, singing "We Shall Overcome."

The event is sponsored by Clarion's Office of Social Equity and Office of the Provost. The King Center, Atlanta, Ga., is leading the national effort.
