It’s On Us campaign is focus of Clarion University panel

January 26, 2018
Clarion University will present It's On Us Panel: Campaign to End Sexual Assault at 7 p.m. Feb. 1 in Hart Chapel.

The event was developed to educate others on resources available to them and to open a raw conversation that many people need to know how to have.

"We want the broad purpose of this event to be that there are resources available, people are here to talk about anything related to the topic, and we are willing to listen and care," said Lexis Twentier, a student in the paralegal studies program and member of It's On Us Advisory Committee.

Panelists include: Dr. Susanne Fenske, vice president for university affairs; Matthew Shaffer, director of student engagement and development; Jim McGee, director, Center for Wellness; Dr. Kathleen Welsch, professor of English; Cpl. Shane White, Clarion University Police; and a victim/survivor

It's On Us PA is a statewide campaign that invites everyone to play a role in ending sexual assault, according to the Pennsylvania governor's website, www.governor.pa.us. Building off the momentum of the national It's On Us movement, It's On Us PA brings together college and university presidents, superintendents, administrators, teachers, students, families, and community members to reframe the conversation around sexual violence and pledge to be part of the solution.

The campaign charges that It's On Us to:
• Recognize that non-consensual sex is sexual assault.
• Identify situations in which sexual assault may occur.
• Intervene in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.
• Create an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.

Those attending will be invited to take the It's On Us pledge. Event sponsors are It's On Us Advisory Committee and Clarion University Young Democrats.
