The Clarion V-Day Project and Women and Gender Studies will present “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant & A Prayer” at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 17 in Hart Chapel, Clarion University.

The play is a presentation of writings to stop violence against women and girls, edited by Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle. This is the 18th year that Clarion University has presented a performance based on Ensler’s work. Students performed "Vagina Monologues" from 2001 to 2014, then in 2015 started performing her play, based on a collection of essays by the same name. Selections include writings from Alice Walker, Maya Angelou and Howard Zinn. Each year's production features different selections and interpretations.

This year, a #MeToo component has been added.

"Given the growing opening for discussions of sexual harassment and sexual assault following revelations of horrific and systematic abuse in Hollywood, corporate America and beyond, this year more than ever is a crucial time for the Clarion community to come together and take a stand against violence against women and girls," said Dr. Kathleen McIntyre, professor of history and director of Women and Gender Studies. "We cannot be silent on this issue."

This year is the 20th anniversary nationally of the first "Vagina Monologues" performance and the founding of VDAY, the global activist movement to stop violence against women. This year also marks the 25th anniversary of Clarion's Women and Gender Studies program.

Senior social studies education major Alexandra Elias of Cranberry Township is the director, and senior sociology major Coralie Compere of Philadelphia will perform. Stage production managers are sociology major Kiara Greene of Philadelphia and liberal studies major Dakota Roberts of McKeesport. Greene is also the president of Clarion V-Day Project.

Donations of toiletry items will be accepted and donated to the SAFE and PASSAGES agencies in Clarion. Tickets are $10 for adults, free for Clarion students with ID.
