Community invited to honor veterans at annual ceremony

November 1, 2016

Clarion University’s Veterans Committee welcomes students, faculty and the public to their annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 10, near the apple sculpture on campus. The ceremony is an opportunity to thank veterans in the community, including those who have already served and those who are currently in ROTC programs or the National Guard Reserves.

During the ceremony, the university's six newly contracted ROTC cadets will be honored. After the cadets are honored, President Karen Whitney will give remarks.

Following the president, retired Marine Corps Lt. Col. Dan Smith will speak about Veterans Day, the veterans' experience and what the community can take away from this event.

"We'd love to have as many members of the university come out and show thanks to veterans for everything they've done over the last 15 years, being constantly at war with either Afghanistan or Iraq," Smith said. "The country has gotten a lot better at saying thanks, and the ceremony is an opportunity for Clarion to do the same."

Cake and refreshments will be served during the ceremony. If inclement weather occurs, the ceremony will be moved to the Gemmell Student Complex in room 250/252.
