Cornel West to visit Clarion University

Cornel WestCornel West, public intellectual and groundbreaking author, will take part in a panel discussion, “Black Lives Matter,” for university students from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in Gemmell MPR, and a lecture, “Inside Politics,” for the community at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Marwick-Boyd auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

West is a professor of philosophy and Christian practice at Union Theological Seminary. He is also professor emeritus at Princeton University, and has taught at Yale, Harvard and the University of Paris. West graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard in three years, earning his master's and doctorate in philosophy from Princeton.

The author of more than 20 books, West has appeared on national television, films and talk radio. He has composed award-winning spoken word albums, and is dedicated to keeping the message of Martin Luther King Jr. alive by bearing witness to love and justice.

West's visit is sponsored by the University Activities Board, the MLK Committee, Office of Minority Student Affairs and the Mary L. Seifert Cultural Series, a formation established to provide the campus community with cultural, learning-inspired discussion.
