Clarion University Students and Administration Participate in Advocacy Days in Harrisburg

April 5, 2016

President Karen Whitney, along with five students and four administrators, is representing Clarion University at the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s Advocacy Days at the state Capitol on April 5 and 6.

Nearly 150 students, faculty, administrators, trustees and alumni from the 14 state universities are meeting to discuss the role the universities play in their respective campus, local and regional communities throughout Pennsylvania.

Members of the state House of Representatives and state Senate will meet with the students to discuss their college experiences, the importance of the education they are receiving for themselves, their families and the future of the state.

Several universities will be highlighted, including Clarion.  President Karen Whitney is scheduled to speak, and Clarion University students, Gina and Kaela Zingaro, are interviewing participants and creating a video blog of the event.

A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. on April 6 in the Capitol Rotunda where Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Chancellor Frank T. Brogan and Board of Governors Chairman Guido M. Pichini will discuss the economic impact of the 14 universities on the state’s economy, as well as recent findings of an ongoing study about the changing workforce in Pennsylvania and how higher education is meeting the needs of the Commonwealth.

At the conclusion of the news conference, Brogan will introduce the winner of the 2016 “Mascot Madness” competition.
