“Selma,” the first movie of the 2015-2016 Seifert Film Series, will be shown Sept. 15 in the Clarion University Theater in Suites on Main. A pre-movie discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will continue after the showing.
Seven movies, all themed "Inside Politics," will be shown from September to April. Each film begins with a 6:30 p.m. discussion, which resumes after the film. These talks aim to help viewers understand film content more deeply and touch their perceptions, according to Shawn Hoke, director of the university's Center for Leadership and Involvement.
"This year's theme encourages citizen participation in the political process through critical examination of an array of salient political issues, seminal historical events and socio-political movements," Hoke said.
In addition to "Selma," films, all free and open to the public, include:

• Nov. 3, "Electoral Dysfunction"
• Feb. 2, "Caucus"
• Feb. 16, "Boogie Man"
• March 2, "A Quiet Inquisition"
• April 5, "American Experience: Last Days in Vietnam"
Mary L. Seifert, whose rich family history with Clarion University can be traced to 1907, loved music and the arts. As an investment in young people, she endowed a culture and lecture series at Clarion University to ignite the passion for learning that she encouraged. Through that endowment, the Mary L. Seifert Cultural Series Endowment of the Clarion University Foundation, Inc., was established to provide the Clarion University community with cultural experiences that inspire learning through thoughtful discussions.
