Greene kicks off Clarion University Spoken Arts Series

Franklin writer Peter Greene will speak about professions in English and humanities at 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at Clarion University’s in Davis Hall. The talk is free and open to the public.

Greene is the first presenter in this year's Spoken Arts Reading Series, sponsored by the Department of English and Modern Languages, "Tobeco Literary and Arts Journal" and Professions in English Studies.

Greene, a graduate of Franklin High School and Allegheny College, is a teacher. He writes a regular column for The (Oil City) Derrick and maintains a blog entitled "Curmudgucation," addressing educational issues.

Recently named Education Fellow by The Progressive, a monthly magazine featuring political commentary, investigative reporting and an assortment of other topics, Greene is also the author of several books. Among his achievements are occasional radio disc jockeying, directing a church choir, playing the trombone and being a member of Franklin Silver Cornet Band and Franklin Civic Operetta.

Following the presentation, Greene will participate in Open Mic Night at 6:30 p.m. in Michelle's Café, 611 Main St.
