Conservation conference will focus on white-tailed deer

Thomas Simmons, professor of biology at Indiana State University, will present his research on ticks and Lyme disease as the keynote speaker for the third annual conservation conference, hosted by Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Society of Conservation Biology. The conference is set for 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 7 in Grunenwald Center for Science and Technology, Clarion University.

The conference theme, "Crossing Borders: Conservation through Interdisciplinary Science," will focus on white-tailed deer. Simmons, who is keynote speaker, will lecture in the morning, followed by lunch and an afternoon of poster and PowerPoint presentations.

A panel discussion will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. and will conclude the conference. The panel will be comprised of representatives from Pennsylvania Game Commission, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Quality of Deer Management Alliance and Penn State. They will offer four questions for open discussion with the audience.

Cost of the panel is $25 for participants from outside of Clarion University and free for university students with ID. Registration forms, required for all participants, are available at www.westernpaconservationconference.com.
