Community invited as Clarion University Debate Team takes on Penn State

Clarion University Debate Team will take on Penn State in a public debate at 3 p.m. Sept. 24 in Carlson Library, level A. The topic for the debate is “Resolved: Should student athletes get paid.” The debate is free and open to the public.

The debate is a two-on-two format. Laurel Pierotti, Kane, and Mia Vasquez, Bronx, N.Y., will go head to head against two competitors from Penn State, where the two will represent Clarion by defending the claim.

“The debate will begin with an opening constructive speech from both sides,” said James Lyle, Clarion debate team coach.  “The floor will open up to the public to ask questions, and then the students will end with a final conclusion supporting their claim.”

The debate lasts for about 90 minutes and allows the audience to ask questions and get involved in the debate.
