Eight Clarion University students and two faculty members attended the 2014 Midwest Economics Association Conference in March in Chicago.
The students, members of the Economics Club, PEACE, attended multiple sessions, as well as an address by Dr. Charles Manski, president of Northwestern University, “Public Policy in an Uncertain World. Those attending include: Terri Lynn Clark, PEACE president, Kittanning; Bethany Nuttall, Pittsburgh; Shianne Russell, Kittanning; Ryo Ogura, Tokyo; Logan Zamperini, Punxsutawney; Madison Daly, Leechburg; Olivia Fischer, Verona; and Amanda Maze, Butler.
Dr. Sandra Trejos, professor of economics at Clarion, presented a paper, “Happiness and Academic Performance in the Economics Classroom,” and Dr. Gustavo Barboza, professor of administrative science, presented a paper, “Assessing Financial Literacy. The Role of Gender and Cognitive Differences.” Co-authors on Barboza’s paper are Dr. James Pesek, dean emeritus of the College of Business Administration, and Dr. Chad Smith, associate professor of administrative science.
Trejos said that students appreciated the uniqueness of such an academic opportunity and the perks of being part of such high-quality professional atmosphere, while getting to know a great city.
