Clarion University Community Relations Committee and various Clarion community organizations, charities and churches will host the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast at 8 a.m. Jan. 20 in the American Legion, Clarion. Tickets are $7 at the door. A food drive will be part of the breakfast; those attending are encouraged to bring a food item for the drive.
The theme of the event is “The King Legacy – The Dream: 50 Years Later.” Dr. Robert
Girvan, retired Clarion University faculty member and treatment co-facilitator for
Project Point of Light, will be guest speaker.
Like King, Girvan has juggled many social roles, including spouse, father, grandfather, employee, volunteer, student, athlete, believer and citizen. Inspired by King, Girvan’s volunteer efforts are extensive. They include the Mississippi Box Project, United Farm Workers, American Friends Service Committee, Center for the Study of Local Issues, American Civil Liberties Union, Nuclear Freeze, Habitat for Humanity, Pregnancy and Parenting Resources Initiative, as well as Clarion University’s Martin Luther King Committee and Frederick Douglass Program.
