Psychology honorary’s Clarion chapter inducts three

Clarion University chapter of Psi Chi, a psychology honorary, inducted three new members at its semi-annual banquet Nov. 20. Psi Chi recognizes psychology majors and minors who have demonstrated academic excellence in psychology. Its goals include encouraging, stimulating and maintaining excellence in scholarship and advancing the science of psychology.

Jason Noto, a school psychologist, was the banquet's keynote speaker. He congratulated new and graduating members on their academic achievements and discussed what he has learned about the field and working with others.

Members newly inducted into Psi Chi during a candlelight ceremony were MaKayla Dusch, Curwensville; Maria Santarsiero, Newport News, Va., and Carlie Leaman, Elizabethtown.

Graduating senior Rebecca Stelter, Warren, discussed her goals for the future, her experiences in the psychology department and at Clarion University, and gave advice for other students.

Psi Chi's officers include Emily Jonas, Saegertown, president; Emily Flaus, Pittsburgh, vice president; Rebecca Stelter, Warren, treasurer; Andy Manos, New Castle, secretary; Sarah Skinner, Beaver, historian; and Brad Kaiser, Pittsburgh, outreach. Dr. Jeanne Slattery serves as chapter advisor.

Psi Chi had a busy semester, including a talk on graduate school, a soup fundraiser for PASSAGES, a group bowling trip, volunteering for the United Way 5k/10k and a Giving Tree for United Way.
