Santinoceto's Italian Market celebrated its grand opening on March 4, 2016.

Santinoceto’s Italian Market celebrated its grand opening on March 4, 2016. However, the Santinoceto family name is far from new to the Clearfield area. Nick Santinoceto’s grandparents, Joseph and Mary, opened an Italian market in 1931. Joseph passed away in 1959, but his wife kept the market open until 1984. Nick was practically raised in the store helping his family with many tasks.

Nick Santinoceto’s background is in computers and after high school he moved away for 21 years, returning home in 2002 to work at Clearfield Hospital. Meanwhile, he was making

sausage and meatballs, using his family’s special, secret recipe, for family and friends. Many times his friends and family would tell him that he needed to open a store. This idea always stayed in the back of his mind. Finally, Nick was laid off from Clearfield Hospital in January of 2015. For Nick, it was now or maybe never. Go for it or don’t. Nick went for it!

Nick reached out to the Clarion University SBDC early in the process for assistance in developing a detailed business plan and an employee handbook. The Clarion University SBDC assisted Nick with market and industry research, constructing a business plan and financing options. With the Clarion University SBDC’s help, Nick developed a detailed business plan and an employee handbook. He was able to obtain more than $100,000 in funding to start and operate the Italian Market. The employee handbook will contribute to the long term success of Santinoceto’s Italian Market as it grows.

“It’s like going to an Italian market in the strip district of Pittsburgh!” Nick promised. “My sausage and meatballs…well, you have to be the judge.”
