Cousins and Coffee Cakes Make a Delicious Combo

Cousins, Heather Baughman and Stacy Haag, have shared everything in life, especially their love of baking. For years the cousins went from baking in an Easy-Bake Oven to making Christmas cookies for family and friends. It was a true passion for both. Recently they decided to turn their passion into a much needed bakery in downtown Brookville, Pennsylvania, Jefferson County.

The ladies approached the Clarion University Small Business Development Center for assistance in planning the start-up of their business and together their dream became a reality. Coffee Cakeshas been a tremendous success due in great part to the imaginations of the two women. They are not afraid to try new flavor combos or even “crazy” ideas like chocolate covered bacon – a tremendously big hit!

Recently a tornado passed through Brookville and the ladies never missed a beat. The day following the tornado, they created a daily special as “Wizard of Oz” cupcakes complete with Dorothy and Toto figurines.

Coffee Cakes features three new flavors of cupcakes each day. They have a strong presence on Facebook and they listen to their customers. Each week they ask their Facebook followers what flavors they would like to see, and then, Coffee Cakesresponds with the delicious treats. They also feature wonderful sandwiches on fresh baked rolls, large salads of all types, biscotti, cookies, cakes, chocolate covered pretzels, and coffees and teas of all flavors. In addition, they show their appreciation to the community by offering free coffee to all police and fire personnel, a kind and generous touch.

In the future, the cousins plan on opening more locations as well as offering online sales. They feel they can count on the Clarion University SBDC for assistance and guidance as they grow.

We feel very welcomed into the community and we would like to thank the Clarion University SBDC for their help and support!"
