B.A. Sociology

The field of sociology explores the social and cultural influences on social behavior, the dynamics of social interaction and inequality, social institutions, change and social problems. The sociology major is beneficial to anyone who is interested in working closely with people and, in this sense, career possibilities are practically unlimited. Types of entry-level jobs available to graduates in sociology include: social service agencies, community organizations, and government agencies, as well as business. Sociology also teaches skills that are beneficial and related to further studies in law, criminology, teaching, social work, and business. This program is offered only at the Clarion campus.

B.A. Sociology/Psychology

The interdisciplinary program in sociology/psychology, leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree, is administered jointly by the Departments of Sociology and Psychology. The degree was developed to provide a complementary course of study for students interested primarily in social and human service fields, as well as those wishing to pursue graduate training in social work leading to a master’s degree in that field. This program is offered at the Clarion campus and online.

Minor in Social Work

The field of sociology explores the social and cultural influences on social behavior, the dynamics of social interaction and inequality, social institutions, change and social problems. The 18-credit social work minor provides students with knowledge in areas such as theory, research methods, inequality, family, social problems, deviance, and conflict resolution. This minor is offered only at the Clarion campus.

Minor in Sociology

Sociology, by its very nature, touches upon numerous other disciplines, some quite centrally. Often, students select a range of sociology courses to round out their undergraduate programs and augment their major field of study. The sociology minor provides students with a basic understanding of social relationships, social interaction and social institutions. This minor is offered only at the Clarion campus.
