Clarion University is a regional hub not only for education but also for enlightening and entertaining activities.
Soon after the semester begins, students are greeted with the town's nine-day Autumn
Leaf Festival which coincides with our annual Homecoming festivities. The two events
are typically held at the end of September or early October. Our students enjoy walking
downtown to eat at the many food booths and hear music at one of Clarion University's
Cultural Nights. Another popular event is Farmers and Crafters Day which features
artisans and crafters on Main Street the Friday before Parade Day. Parade Day, which
is always on a Saturday, includes our Homecoming court and various other university
groups as they travel down Main Street to greet thousands of people.
Throughout the year, you'll be entertained by our award-winning theatre productions
that take place in the fall and spring semesters. Some past productions have been
presented at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and have won prestigious awards.
You'll feel the suspense of the opening night in one of our three possible theater
venues including Marwick-Boyd Theatre, Marwick-Boyd Little Theatre and Hart Chapel.
The university also is known for its Martin Luther King Jr. Speaker Series which features
guests who mirror King's dream for this country in the realm of social justice. The
speakers discuss issues such as schooling, human violence, intolerance, gender issues
and the structure of job opportunities. The program also hosts singers, poets, authors
and a variety of entertainment professionals whose main goals are in line with King's.
The Mary L. Seifert Cultural Series is another ongoing event that provides the Clarion
University community with cultural experiences that inspire learning through thoughtful
discussions. The late Maya Angelou was a past speaker of this vibrant series. The
series is made possible from an endowment of the Clarion University Foundation, Inc.
CampusFest usually takes place in the spring semester with a variety of concerts,
performers and activities. Past performers have included Cassadee Pope, Cartel, The
Band Perry, T-Pain and comedians Bo Burnham and Ben Bailey.
