LOCK HAVEN 40 CLARION 6

            (LOCK HAVEN, PA.): Lock Haven won 8 of 10 matches on Sunday afternoon at LHU’s Thomas Field House as the Bald Eagles defeated Clarion 40-6 in an NCAA Division I wrestling match.

            The final dual meet of the year for both teams, Clarion finishes the season with a 7-13 overall record and an 0-6 mark in the Eastern Wrestling League. Lock Haven ends with an 8-6 dual meet mark and a 2-4 slate in the EWL.

            Clarion’s two wins came at heavyweight and at 149-pounds.

            At heavyweight Clarion’s A.J. Brooks (So. Lewes, De.) decisioned Ben Hepburn 4-3. Brooks tied the match at 2-2 in the third with a stalling point, then took Hepburn down with 15-seconds left in the match and a 4-2 lead. Hepburn escaped at the buzzer to make the final 4-3. Brooks raised his season record to 17-10.

            At 149 freshman Hadley Harrison (McKean) used a takedown with 50-seconds left in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and win 5-3 over Donnie Ament. Harrison rode Ament the final 50-seconds to secure his win and finish the season with a 21-16 record.

            One of the most entertaining matches came at 165 with Clarion freshman Mario Morelli (DuBois) and Lock Haven’s Landis Wright. Morelli put Wright to his back in the first for a 5-point move and a 6-2 lead. Later in the first a reversal by Morelli gave him an 8-4 lead, but Wright put Morelli to his back in the waning seconds of the first and Wright led 9-8 after one period. The bout was tied at 10-10 after two periods, then Wright used a third period reversal to go ahead 12-11 before catching Morelli late in the bout and pinning him at 6:41.

            Regulars Sal Lascari (133) and Greg Lewis (141) were out today with injuries, but both hope to return for the EWL Championships set for March 3-4 at Cleveland State.
