#8 EDINBORO DROPS CLARION 40-6

            (EDINBORO, PA.): Clarion Friday night's NCAA Division I wrestling match with a fall to lead 6-0, but #8 ranked Edinboro won the final 9 bouts to post a 40-6 win over the Golden Eagles on Friday night.

            Clarion drops to 7-6 overall and 0-1 in the Eastern Wrestling League, while Edinboro is now 13-1 overall and 2-0 in the EWL.

            Clarion opened the scoring when junior Toby Seeger (Glenshaw) used a second period fall to defeat Eric Morrill and Clarion led 6-0 after 125-pounds. Seeger back tripped Morrill and then used a half nelson to pin Morrill at 4:19

            Edinboro’s #18 ranked Ricky Deubel defeated Clarion’s Sal Lascari 7-3 at 133, then Daryl Cocozzo upset the Eagles Greg Lewis 10-4 at 141 to tied the team score 6-6.

            #5 ranked Gregor Gillespie notched a 10-2 major decision over Clarion’s Hadley Harrison at 149, and teammate Matt Hill (ranked #10) won a 17-0 technical fall over Nick Billups at 157 to put the Scots out in front 15-6.

            Edinboro’s Deonte Penn (ranked 8^th) posted his 100^th career win when he pinned freshman Mario Morelli at 4:39 at 167, and Phil Moricone decisioned Clarion’s Scott Joseph 8-2 at 174 giving Edinboro an insurmountable 24-6 lead.

            #11 ranked Alex Clemsen took a forfeit at 184, Jim Gibson won a major decision over Dixon Jordan 12-2 at 197, and #19 ranked Joe Fendone pinned Clarion’s A.J. Brooks at 5:43 to give Edinboro the win by a final of 40-6.

            Clarion returns home on Sunday to host West Virginia, another EWL rival, with match time at Tippin Gym set to begin at 2pm.
