CLARION WRESTLERS AT #8 EDINBORO FRIDAY/HOST WVU SUNDAY
Clarion University’s NCAA Division I Wrestling team has a busy weekend coming up as the Golden Eagles visit EWL rival Edinboro on Friday, January 19th, then returns to host West Virginia on Sunday in another key EWL matchup.
The Friday dual at Edinboro is set for 7:30pm at McComb Fieldhouse, while the Sunday match at the Golden Eagles Waldo S. Tippin Gym will start at 2pm.
Both matches can also be heard on WCCR-FM (92.7) and on the internet at www.redzonemedia.com. with Rich Herman and former coach Bob Bubb describing the action.
Clarion enters the weekend with a 7-5 dual meet record under first year head coach Teague Moore. The Golden Eagles are on a three match win streak posting victories over Davidson (33-12), Delaware State (37-9) and Binghamton (26-21).
Clarion’s lineup will have either Patrick Feeley (6-4; Fr. Johnston, R.I.) or Toby Seeger (5-8; Jr. Glenshaw) at 125; Sal Lascari (16-6; So. Gray) at 133; Greg Lewis (11-4; So. New Providence) at 141; Hadley Harrison (14-8; Fr. McKean) at 149; Nick Billups (3-5; So. Princeton, Iowa) or Lucas Christopher (4-10; So. McMurray) at 157; Mario Morelli (7-2; Fr. DuBois) or Dom Ross (10-4; So. Sharon) at 165; Scott Joseph (5-15; Fr. Export) at 174, Dixon Jordan (6-11; Fr. Cheverly, Md.) At 197 and A.J. Brooks (13-4; So. Lewes, De.) At heavyweight.
Edinboro, ranked 8th in the nation under 10th year head coach Tim Flynn, has a dual meet record of 12-1 this season. Wins have come against Penn State (19-17), Kent State (24-12), Michigan State (26-13), Lock Haven (45-0) and Lehigh (26-9). The only loss was to Penn State by a 27-9 margin.
Top Fighting Scot wrestlers include #19 ranked Ricky Deubel (16-9) at 133; #5 rated Gregor Gillespie (23-1) at 149; #10 rated Matt Hill (22-1) at 157; #8 rated Deonte Penn (22-2) at 165; #11 ranked Alex Clemsen (19-2) at 184 and #19 ranked Joe Fendone (15-4) at heavyweight.
West Virginia, led by 29th year head coach Craig Turnbull, enters the dual just out of the top 25 in the nation and has posted a 1-2 dual meet mark this season. The Mountaineers defeated Duquesne 37-7, but lost to #8 Northwestern 28-14 and Penn 25-18.
Top WVU wrestlers include #11 rated Brandon Rader (12-1) at 141; #20 ranked Zach Fryling (13-4) at 157; #16 Jared Villers (16-5) at 197, Dave Jauregui (12-2) at 141 and Dustin Rogers (10-3) at heavyweight.
CLARION NOTES: Clarion lost to Edinboro 27-9 last year at Tippin Gym... The Scots have won 8 straight duals ... The last Clarion win was 25-16 in 1998 ... WVU defeated Clarion 37-6 last season and has won 5 straight ... The last Clarion win was 27-10 to start the 2001 season ...
