Clarion Drops Three At Lone Star Duals

            (Grand Prairie, Texas): Clarion traveled to the “Lone Star Duals” on Saturday, January 7^th, and came away with an 0-3 record losing to #3 ranked Oklahoma (47-0), South Dakota State (28-15) and Northern Colorado (21-15).

            The Golden Eagles dropped to 0-8 on the season and return to Waldo S. Tippin Gym on Thursday, January 12^th at 7:30pm, when the Golden Eagles will host PSAC rival Slippery Rock.

            In the final dual Clarion jumped out to a 12-0 lead with decisions at 125 and 141 by Toby Seger and Greg Lewis, sandwiched in between a pin by freshman Ron LaBrake at 133, giving Clarion a 12-0 lead.

            When Logan Downes captured a 2-1 decision at 165 the Eagles still held a 15-6 advantage, but the lead and the match slipped away losing the final four bouts, including a forfeit loss at 197. Clarion sophomore 197-pounder Matt Wilcox missed the trip with an injury, as did captains T.J. McCance at 149 and Charlie Cilinski at 184.

            The 47-0 loss to Oklahoma is the largest loss and the most points yielded in a dual meet in Clarion’s history.  The previous largest loss was a 45-0 defeat versus Ohio State in 2001-02.

            Toby Seger at 125 was 2-1 on the day, while Greg Lewis was 1-1 and Dave Gardner, Logan Downes and Derrick Smith were all 1-2.
