(Ypsilanti, Michigan): Clarion won 5 of 10 bouts tonight, but EMU used two pins and two forfeits to its advantage in registering a 29-16 win over the Golden Eagles.
Clarion dropped to 0-15 on the season, while Eastern Michigan raised its record to 6-8.
Clarion’s five wins were registered by Greg Lewis (141), Lucas Christopher (157), Dave Gardner (!74), Dominic Ross (184) and A.J. Brooks at heavyweight.
Lewis ran his season record to 13-9 with a 3-2 win over Nick Conklin. Lewis had a three-point near fall to start the third period, and those points held up for the win.
At 157, Christopher gained his first dual meet win at Clarion with a 7-4 decision over Quinn Guernsey. Ahead 2-1 in the second, Christopher reversed Guernsey to his back for a four-point move and a 6-1 lead. He added a riding time point for his 7-4 win.
Gardner raised his record to 14-12 on the year with a 15-5 major decision over Josh Lewis. Ahead 2-0 entering the second period, Gardner used a reversal, takedown and three point near fall to gain a 9-1 advantage. He also had a takedown and a near fall in the third period to post his win.
The most excitement of the night came at 184 with Ross winning a last-season 10-8 decision over John McClure. The win, also the first dual meet win for Ross, came in the third with Ross trailing 6-3, plus riding time. Ross took McClure down with about 40-seconds left, let him escape, then took McClure to his back with only 12 seconds left for a five point move and the win.
Brooks upped his record to 11-15 with a 5-4 decision over Jake Wood. Brooks had takedowns in the first and third period to secure the win.
Clarion will host Cleveland State on Sunday at 2pm
