(BUFFALO, N.Y.): 13th ranked Kyle Cerminara notched a 21-7 major decision at 197 over Charlie Cilinski and pushed the University at Buffalo past Clarion University on Saturday night by a 19-17 final score at Alumni Arena.

The win moved Buffalo to 10-2 overall, while Clarion dropped to 2-2.

Clarion fell behind 6-0 to start the dual when Mark McKnight defeated Clarion’s Peter Derstine 6-4 at 125 pounds, and Cliff Smith edged Eagle freshman Doug Surra 4-0 at 133.

The Golden Eagles bounced back winning three of the next four weight classes to take an 11-9 team lead. Frank Edgar posted three takedowns and received four stalling points to posted an 11-3 major decision over Mike Trotta. Edgar raised his season record to 22-3 at 141-pounds.

Buffalo’s Patrick Lloyd edged T.J. McCance 2-1 in sudden death overtime in a match that certainly proved crucial. Tied 1-1 after the first overtime period, McCance chose down and could not escape, while Lloyd escaped with about 10-seconds left in his overtime and won 2-1.

Clarion came raring back however with a 9-0 major decision by Chris Horner ovr Casey Burchfield to narrow the team score to 9-8. Horning had a takedown and three point near fall in the first, an escape in the second and a takedown plus riding time for his victory.

Jeremy Reitz upped his record to 19-7 at 165 with a solid 4-0 win over Nick Rausenberger. Reitz used a three-point near fall in the second period and riding time to post his win and give Clarion an 11-9 team lead.

Clarion’s Aaron Wright had Buffalo’s Ed Pawlak on the ropes at 174 but couldn't put him away. Wright had a couple near miss takedowns in the first period, Pawlak escaped in the second and Wright escaped quickly in the third. Wright pressured Pawlak the entire third period and Pawlak was called for stalling. With the match winding down, Pawlak caught Wright off balance and posted a takedown with two seconds left to win his bout 3-1 and put the Bulls up 12-11.

Buffalo’s Garrett Hicks was also in trouble in the first period, with Kyle Cathcart getting inside twice on single leg attacks and raising Hicks’ leg in the air, but Cathcart was unable to convert the takedowns. And the duo went to the second period scoreless. Hicks reversed Cathcart, then Cathcart escaped to end the second and begin the third to tie the score at 2-2. Hicks posted a takedown with a minute left and won 5-2, setting up Cerminara’s win over Charlie Cilinski, 21-7 at 197.

Clarion heavyweight Matt Wilcox caught Buffalo’s Greg Thomas and pinned him early in the first period to register the fall at 1:10. Wilcox got the takedown, used a power half, and turned Thomas to his back.

Clarion will return to the mats on Friday, January 16th at Bloomsburg with match time set for 7:30pm. Clarion will continue on the road to Rider on Saturday, January 17th for a 1pm match, before returning home to host Edinboro on Saturday, January 24th at 7:30pm.
