CLARION DEFEATS BLOOMSBURG 28-13
(BLOOMSBURG, PA): Clarion won 7 of 10 matches and defeated Bloomsburg in an Eastern Wrestling League match Friday night 28-13 at Nelson Fieldhouse.
The Golden Eagles raised their overall record to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the EWL, while Bloomsburg dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-4 in the league.
After the Huskies jumped out to a 4-0 lead at 184-pounds, Clarion responded with four straight wins by Eric Mausser at 197, John Testa at heavyweight, Starlin Jimenez at 125 and Rad Martinez at 133 and built a nice 15-4 lead.
Mausser notched a 17-0 technical fall at 6:12 of the match with two takedowns, four near falls a reversal and riding time. Mausser raised his record this season to 21-6.
Testa defeated Tony Milone 11-7. He scored two takedowns in the first period to lead 4-1. He also had a takedown i the second and third period and a reversal to account for his points. Ranked #9 in the nation, Testa’s season record is 21-5.
Jimenez scored all his points in the third period to defeat Mike Collins 6-2. He scored a reversal, a three-point near fall and riding time.
Martinez, ranked #6 in the nation at 133, used six takedowns to defeat Mark Piremattei 14-4. Martinez has a season record of 20-2.
After Clarion’s Stephen Stremple was pinned, The Eagles saw Dominic Surra pin Bloomsburg’s Brandon White at 3:43, then Jeremy Reitz decisioned B.J. Mikeska 10-6 to give the Eagles an insurmountable 24-10 lead.
After the Eagles lost at 165, Todd Schuchert came roaring back at 174-pounds for a major decision over the Huskies Tom Anderson 16-5. Schuchert posted four takedowns, two near falls, a reversal and riding time to register his major.
"I thought we came out and wrestled very hard in every match here tonight," said Clarion head coach Ken Nellis. "We looked sharp tonight. We’re going to try and keep things rolling into a big match tomorrow at Rider".
