Clarion Snaps 2-Game Losing Streak with 95-71 Win Over Lock Haven

Golden Eagles start PSAC-West home play with a victory

 

CLARION – The Clarion women’s basketball team put on an offensive show scoring its most points since early in the 2005 and getting its first PSAC-West win of the season 95-71 over Lock Haven in the Golden Eagles home PSAC-West opener at Tippin Gym.

 

The victory snapped a 2-game losing streak for Clarion and was its fourth consecutive PSAC-West home opener, the longest streak in 19th-year head coach Gie Parsons Clarion career.

 

The Golden Eagles were on fire the entire game shooting 52.5 for the game (31 of 59) while putting five players in double figures.

 

Jessica Albanese led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Janelle Zabresky had 14 points , seven rebounds and four blocked shots off the bench. My’Kea Cohill added 11 points, three assists, three rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots, Ashley Grimm had 10 points, five assists and two steal, and Sara Pratt had six points, four rebounds and five blocked shots.

 

Kristin Kudrick led all scorers with 20 points for Lock Haven while adding eight rebounds, while Casi Donelan had 11 points and Marissa Elliott had 10.

 

The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday when they host Shippensburg at 1 p.m. The game can be heard on WCUC, 91.7 FM, in Clarion and on the internet at www.redzonemedia.com.

 

NOTES – There were four technical fouls in the game including three by Lock Haven (Aiesha Smith, Michelle Mitchell and Malika Miller) and one by Clarion (Lizzie Suwala). Smith’s and Suwala’s were off-setting fouls late in the first half, while the other two came in the second half … Clarion shot 33 free throws in the game hitting 29 of them for an 87.9 percent success rate. Lock Haven was 14 of 20 from the line … Clarion blocked 13 shots in the contest, the most in a game by Clarion this season and third time this year the Golden Eagles have had double-digit blocks as a team.
