FIRST-HALF RUN HELPS EAGLES SNAP SLIDE

CLARION – Clarion used a 16-1 first-half run to open up a 31-19 halftime lead on its way to a 64-47 win over visiting Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday nigh in non-conference women’s basketball action at Clarion University’s Tippin Gym.

 

The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Golden Eagles (2-4) and is their third in four tries against the rival Lady Cats (3-3).

 

Jessica Albanese recorded her second straight double-double (18 points, 15 rebounds) to lead the Golden Eagles. The 15 rebounds are a career-high for the junior. My’Kea Cohill added 15 points and Katrina Greer 12 for Clarion. Ashley Grimm chipped in with six points, six assists and three steals, while April Gratton had eight points and six assists.

 

Defense was the game of the game for Clarion, as the Eagles held UPJ to 35.3 percent shooting while also getting five steals and forcing 15 turnovers.

 

Allison Krischer had a game-high 25 points to lead UPJ, which was just 8 of 21 from the free-throw line. Jessica Zapf chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.

 

Clarion is now off for Finals until Dec. 19 when it hosts Cheyney at 2 p.m.
