ALBANESE RECORDS 500TH REBOUND BUT CLARION LOSES AT EDINBORO
EDINBORO – Jessica Albanese became the 16th player in school history to record 500 rebounds, but Clarion lost at Edinboro 78-66 in PSAC-West women’s basketball action Wednesday night.
Albanese came into the game with 498 career boards and grabbed three in the contest giving her 501 in her career. She also scored 12 points.
But all five of Edinboro’s starters scored in double figures led by 18 points and six rebounds from Kelsey Conklin, and the Fighting Scots shot 54.2 percent for the game.
Clarion trailed by just four points – 21-17 – with 8:55 left in the first half, but Edinboro ended the opening 20 minutes on a 20-6 run to take a commanding 41-23 halftime lead. The Fighting Scots shot 58.6 percent (17 of 29) from the floor in the opening half while Clarion connected on just 8 of 24 shots (33.3 percent).
The Golden Eagles tried to rally in the second half getting the Edinboro lead down to nine points twice – 61-52 with 6:48 left and 63-54 with 6:20 left – but that was as close as Clarion would get.
Katrina Greer led the Golden Eagles with 14 points and five rebounds, while Sara Pratt added a career-high 10 points to go with five rebounds. Ashley Grimm, the PSAC’s leading assist giver, had another lending night getting seven assists to go with eight points. She has six or more assists in six straight games including having seven or more in five of those contests. My’Kea Cohill and April Gratton each chipped in nine points for Clarion.
Rae Sherred added 16 for Edinboro, while Kelly Calderone and Samantha Reimer each chipped in 15 points. Rachel Johnson had 10 tallies.
Clarion closes out the 2007 season Sunday when it hosts Slippery Rock at 1 p.m. It’s Senior Day for the Golden Eagles with Jessica Skeggs and Michelle Johnson being honored along with student manager Brett Sheaffer.
