GREER SCORES 21, BUT CLARION FALLS TO SHIPPENSBURG
CLARION – Despite 21 points from Katrina Greer, the Clarion University women’s basketball team fell to Shippensburg 79-64 in PSAC-West women’s action Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles (7-16 overall, 2-7 PSAC-West) led 30-28 at halftime, and the game was tied at 43 halfway through the second half before Shippensburg used a 13-2 run to take a 56-45 lead with 5:56 left.
Clarion was able to close the gap to five points – 59-54 – on an April Gratton lay-up with 3:43 left. Shippensburg, though, went on a 7-0 run to put the game away.
Ashley Grimm, the PSAC’s leading assist giver, added 11 points and nine assists for Clarion, while Jessica Albanese had 15 points and five rebounds. Gratton chipped in with nine points.
Megan Fogle led five Shippensburg players in double figures with 17 points and is three shy of 1,000 in her career. Jenny Cunningham and Lauren Beckley each added 13 points despite being in foul trouble in the first half. Shanna Oaddams had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Phylicia Bessick had 12 points off the bench.
