GOLDEN EAGLES SEE THREE GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED AT WEST CHESTER

WEST CHESTER – The Clarion University women’s basketball team saw its three-game win streak halted 79-70 at West Chester Sunday afternoon despite a career-day by Katrina Greer.

            Greer, a sophomore, scored a career-high 23 points while hitting a career-best seven 3-pointers for the Golden Eagles (6-9).

But Clarion couldn’t overcome a slow start that saw West Chester use a 9-0 run at the end of the first half to build a 13-point – 43-30 – halftime lead.

That lead grew to 20 points – 58-38 – midway through the second half and remained at 20 – 72-52 – with less than five minutes to play.

The Golden Eagles rallied in the final 4:33 ending the game with an 18-7 run to set the final score.

Jessica Albanese added 17 points and seven rebounds for Clarion, while Ashley Grimm contributed 14 points and 4 assists.

Dominique Lewis led a quintet of West Chester (6-7) players in double figures with 21 points and seven rebounds. Natalie Winters added 15 points and Katie Kline and Catherine Andrews each had 12.

Clarion returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts IUP in a PSAC-West game. That game can be heard on WCUC-FM, 91.7 FM in Clarion and on the internet at www.redzonemedia.com.

NOTES – Led by Greer’s 7 of 10 effort, Clarion was 9 of 20 from 3-point range in the game. It was the most three’s in a contest by the Golden Eagles since they hit 11 vs. Slippery Rock Jan. 21, 2004 … Greer’s seven triples were the most by a Clarion player since Amelia Harris also connected on seven at Lock Haven Feb. 21, 2004 … Clarion finished PSAC Crossover play with a 3-4 mark.
