KOCH, GREER LEAD CLARION PAST KUTZTOWN

Eagles snap 4-game slide

CLARION – Freshman Bethany Koch and sophomore Katrina Greer helped lead Clarion to a 63-52 win over visiting Kutztown Sunday afternoon at Tippin Gym.

Koch, from nearby Union High School, recorded her first career double-double while setting career highs in points (10) and rebounds (11). Nine of Koch’s 11 boards came on the offensive end, which are the most by a Golden Eagle player since Shay Godwin had 10 vs. Shaw Dec. 27, 2003.

Greer (Penns Valley) added 18 points including 14 in the first half helping the Golden Eagles (4-8) to a 34-22 halftime lead. Her back-to-back three-pointers at 9:09 and 7:53 of the opening half jump started a half ending 16-4 run that gave Clarion the 12-point lead the break.

The Golden Eagles got the lead up to 16 – 40-24 – early in the second half.

Kutztown answered with an 11-3 run to get within eight points at 43-35 with 11:01 to play before Clarion went back up by 15 – 50-35 – with 8:39 left.

The Golden Bears had one last run cutting the game to eight with just over two minutes to play before Clarion was 8 of 10 from the free-throw line in the final 1:06 to seal the victory.

Jessica Albanese chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds for Clarion.

Lara Dellegrotti led Kutztown with 15 points, while Mercedes Van Wagner had 14 points, six rebounds and four blocks.

Clarion returns to action Wednesday when it opens PSAC-West action at home vs. California. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. and the game can be heard locally on 91.7 FM and on the Internet at www.redzonemedia.com.
