CLARION’S ALBANESE NAMED PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jessica Albanese, a junior for the Clarion University women’s basketball team, is the PSAC-West Player of the Week for the week ending with games Dec. 10.

Albanese (Crescent Springs, KY/Notre Dame Academy) helped the Golden Eagles (2-4) to a 64-47 win over visiting Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday by scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She was 9-for-10 shooting from the field, which is the best shooting percentage at Clarion when taking at least nine shots 2003-04 season. Jessica played a key role in a 16-1 first-half run that helped Clarion erase a 1-point deficit and take a 31-19 halftime lead. She scored six straight points in the middle of the run.

On the young season, Albanese leads the Golden Eagles in scoring (14.8 ppg), rebounding (7.8 rpg) and shooting (59.7 percent). She was a PSAC-West second-team performer in 2006.

Albanese is the first Golden Eagle to earn Player of the Week honors since Melba Melon won the award Jan. 16 during last season.
