CLARION’S GREER NAMED PSAC-WEST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

            For the third time this season, Clarion freshman guard Katrina Greer (Centre Hall/Penns Valley) is the PSAC-West Rookie of the Week.

            Greer earned the award after helping the Golden Eagles (12-11 overall, 3-5 PSAC-West) to a 2-0 week last week that included a 73-61 win at Shippensburg last Monday and a 69-57 win at home over Lock Haven Wednesday. The two victories helped Clarion climb back into playoff contention in the PSAC-West.

            Katrina, who averaged 12.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg last week had 16 points and two steals at Shippensburg and added nine points and five rebounds against Lock Haven. In the Shippensburg game, she became the first Clarion player since the 1999-2000 season to shoot 100 percent from the foul line when taking at least 10 charity shots when she was 10-for-10.

            On the season, Greer is fourth on the team in scoring (10.6 ppg) while adding 3.8 rpg, 38 assists and 43 steals. She is shooting 78.1 percent (89 of 114) from the free-throw line, the seventh best mark in the PSAC. She is the fourth leading freshmen scorer in the PSAC-West and the top freshmen free-throw shooter.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES – Greer was also named Rookie of the Week Nov. 21 and Nov. 28 … She is first Golden Eagle to be named Rookie of the Week three times in the same season since Heather Cigich earned the award three times during the 2001-02 season … Greer is the daughter of Patti Davidson and Steve Greer. She is a 2005 graduate of Penns Valley High School where she was a third team Class AA All-State performer her senior season after averaging 23.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg. She finished her high school career with 1,987 points (18.4 ppg) … Clarion returns to action Wednesday in a key PSAC-West game at Slippery Rock. The Rock currently is a ˝ game ahead of Clarion for the fourth and final PSAC Playoff berth given to the PSAC-West. Clarion has four games left including Wednesday.
