EAGLES MAKING 6TH NCAA APPEARANCE This is Clarion’s sixth appearance in the NCAA playoffs … The Golden Eagles first five appearances came in succession from 1991-95 … Clarion is 6-5 in NCAA games including 4-1 in opening round contests … The Golden Eagles last NCAA game was March 7, 1995, when they lost at East Stroudsburg 80-66. CLARION LOOKS FOR 3RD “ELITE 8” TRIP Clarion is looking for its third trip to the “Elite 8” … This year’s “Elite 8”, which the winner of the East Region will advance to, is being held March 23-26 in Hot Springs, Ark. … The Golden Eagles last “Elite 8” appearance was in 1994 when it lost 75-69 to North Alabama in Fargo, ND in the round of 8 … Clarion also advanced to the “Elite 8” in 1991 losing to Norfolk St. 91-69 in Norfolk, Va., in the round of 8. PARSONS IS PSAC-WEST “COACH OF THE YEAR” Clarion head coach Gie Parsons is the PSAC-West “Coach of the Year” … It is the 3rd time she has won the award in her 16 years at Clarion (1991, 1992, 2005) … This season, she has helped the Golden Eagles win 20 games for the first time since 1994 (26-4) including a 10-2 PSAC-West mark, which was good for second in the conference. She had a 16-year record of 249-196 at Clarion including 100-92 in PSAC-West play, and she is the winningest coach in school history. She has a 24-year career record of 359-269. CIGICH, GODWIN, MELTON NAMED ALL-PSAC Clarion had three members of the all-PSAC-West teams … Seniors Heather Cigich and Shay Godwin were first team, while junior Melba Melton was second team (see attachment) … It is the fourth All-PSAC award for Cigich, the second for Godwin and the first for Melton. CIGICH - CLARION’S ALL-AMERICA Cigich, a three-time All-American last season is averaging 17.4 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 3.0 apg and 2.33 spg this season and has 1,826 career points, 1,119 career rebounds, 82 blocks, 250 steals and 243 assists. She ranks 2nd in school history in rebounding, third in scoring and blocks, fifth in steals and 8th in assists (see career stats attached). |
