CLARION MAKING 1ST SEMI’S APPERANCE SINCE ‘95

Clarion is making its first PSAC semifinal appearance since beating Millersville 68-48 in 1995 at East Stroudsburg … It is Clarion’s 7 trip to the semifinals in school history, and the Golden Eagles are 4-3 including three consecutive wins … Clarion is aiming for its fifth all-time appearance in the PSAC Championship game and its first since an 80-71 loss to E. Stroudsburg in 1995 … The Golden Eagles have won three PSAC titles with the last won coming in 1994 71-69 over California … The other PSAC titles were in 1993 and 1991 (see complete Clarion PSAC Playoff history attachment).

CLARION-M-VILLE MEET FOR 5TH TIME AT PSAC’S

This is the 5th meeting between Clarion and Millersville in the PSAC Playoffs with all five coming in the semifinals … Each school has won twice with Clarion winning in ‘95 (68-48) & ‘93 (94-65) and Millersville in ‘88 (67-65, OT) and ‘87 (77-67)

CLARION 6TH; M-VILLE 10TH IN EAST REGION

Both teams are ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA D-II East Region with Clarion 5th and Millersville 10th … The NCAA will take 8 teams from the East Region to the NCAA Playoffs including the PSAC Champion … The NCAA field will be announced Sunday … Clarion is searching for its first NCAA appearance since 1995.

CIGICH THIRD IN SCORING AT CLARION

Sr. F Heather Cigich (1,814 points) now ranks 3rd in school history in scoring … She is also 2nd in rebounds (1,113), which ties the 6th best mark in PSAC history, 3rd in blocks (82), 5th in steals (247) and 8th in assists (242). This year she leads the PSAC in scoring (17.7 ppg) and is tied for 3rd in rebounding (10.1 rpg) … Her 24 points Tuesday against Shippensburg were tied for the 4th most in school history in PSAC playoff action.

MELTON; GRIMM SET UP OFFENSE

Clarion has two guards over 100 assists each … Jr. Melba Melton has 132 (4.71 per game) and ranks 5th in the PSAC in apg and 3rd in school history in assists in a season … Fr. Ashley Grimm has 115 (4.11 per game) and ranks 9th in the PSAC in apg and 8th in school history in assists in a season.

 

2005 CLARION VS. MILLERSVILLE

Clarion beat Millersville 56-53 Dec. 21 at Millersville … 4 Eagles were in double digits led by 13 points, 10 rebounds from Jessica Albanese … Branden Lippy led Millersville with 14 points (see attachment).
