GOLDEN EAGLES PSAC PLAYOFF BOUND

Clarion’s win at Lock Haven last Wednesday coupled with an IUP loss to California the same night clinched Clarion’s 2nd straight PSAC Playoff berth and the 3rd in the last four years for the Golden Eagles … This year will mark the first back-to-back appearance in the postseason for Clarion since the Golden Eagles made it five straight times from 1991-95 while winning five straight PSAC-West titles and three PSAC titles while qualifying for the NCAA “Elite Eight” twice.

CLARION LOOKS FOR FIRST 20-WIN SEASON SINCE ‘94

A win tonight will give Clarion its first 20-win season since the 1994 team went 26-4 … That was the last of four straight 20-win seasons for the Golden Eagles.

EAGLES CONTROL DESTINY IN PSAC-WEST RACE

Clarion controls its own destiny in the PSAC-West title chase … If Clarion wins its final four games, the Golden Eagles will be PSAC-West champions for the first time since 1995 … Clarion could also win the PSAC-West by going 3-1 in its final four games as long as one of the wins is Saturday at California. 

CLARION 30-7 AT HOME SINCE 2002

Despite a loss to Shippensburg at home last Monday that broke a 12-game home win streak, Clarion is 9-1 at home this season and 30-7 in Clarion since the 2002 campaign.

SLIPPERY ROCK IN THICK OF PLAYOFF RACE

Slippery Rock is right in the thick of the PSAC Playoff race trailing Edinboro by just one game in the loss column for the fourth and final spot awarded to the PSAC-West … The Rock beat Edinboro 63-54 Wednesday and are on a 2-game win streak … Slippery Rock also played Cal tough Monday before losing 51-46.

Clarion has won three straight from Slippery Rock and four of the last five including an 87-51 win Jan. 26 at The Rock that saw Clarion shoot nearly 70% for the game … The Golden Eagles have won the last three games by an average of 22.7 ppg … SRU’s last win game Feb. 19, 2003, 71-69 at Slippery Rock ...The Rock last won at Tippin Gym 76-71 Feb. 13, 2002 … Slippery Rock won eight straight games between 1998 and 2001 and 9 of 10 between 1998 and 2002 … Prior to that Clarion had won nine consecutive times from Feb. of 1991 through 1995 … Clarion and Slippery Rock met in the 1991 PSAC Playoffs at Clarion with the Golden Eagles winning 113-102 … Clarion head coach Gie Parsons is 18-14 at Clarion vs. her alma matter (1971) including 10-6 at Tippin Gym.
