GOLDEN EAGLES RANKED THIRD IN EAST REGION LAST WEEK

·            Clarion was ranked third in the first NCAA D-II East Region poll released last Wednesday. The new poll is scheduled to be released today … Clarion was 1-0 last week with the win over Lock Haven.

CLARION 14-3 FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1993-94

·            The Golden Eagles are 14-3 for the first time in 11 years … The 1993-94 team was also 14-3 on its way to a 26-4 overall record and 11-1 mark in the PSAC-West … That team won both the PSAC-West and PSAC titles and advanced to the “Elite Eight” for the second time in four years … Clarion is also 2-0 in PSAC-West play for the first time since the 2001-02 season … That year the Golden Eagles finished 12-15 and 6-6 in the PSAC-West and made the PSAC Playoffs for the first time in five seasons.

EAGLES LOOKING FOR THIRD STRAIGHT 15-WIN SEASON

·            With a win tonight, Clarion would claim its third straight 15-win season and the eighth 15-win season in Clarion head coach “Gie” Parsons 16 seasons at the school … Parsons, a 1971 Slippery Rock graduate, has won 20 games four times at Clarion with the last one coming in 1993-94 (26-4).  

CIGICH CLOSES IN ON 1,000 CAREER REBOUNDS

·            Clarion senior forward Heather Cigich needs just 8 rebounds to become the third player in school history and only the 14^th player in PSAC history to grab 1,000 career rebounds … The other two Clarion players with 1,000 career rebounds are Carlita Jones (1,258) and Mona Gaffney (1,079) … Cigich is also four points shy of becoming the fourth player at Clarion with 1,600 career points … She ranks third in school history in rebounding (992), fourth in scoring (1,596), fifth in steals (219) and third in blocks (75).

PARSONS WINS HER 350^TH GAME

·            Clarion’s win over Lock Haven last Wednesday was the 350^th in Parsons 23 years as a head coach. She is now 350-266 including 240-193 at Clarion, the winningest coach in school history.  

CLARION-SLIPPERY ROCK SERIES

·            Parsons is 17-14 all-time against Slippery Rock including 7-8 at Morrow Field House … The Golden Eagles swept the season series last year and have won four of the last six contests … Clarion won 57-42 at Clarion Feb. 18 last year and 71-54 at Slippery Rock Jan. 21 … Clarion’s 79-68 win at Slippery Rock Jan. 30, 2002, broke an 8-game losing streak against the Rock from 1998-2001 … Prior to that Clarion had won 13 of 17 from 1990-97 including 9 in a row from 1991-95 … The teams played one of the most high scoring games in Clarion history in the 1991 PSAC Playoffs with Clarion winning 113-102 at Tippin Gym … All three games that season were high-scoring affairs with Clarion winning 95-85 at Clarion in the regular season and Slippery Rock getting a 104-94 win at Morrow.
