GODWIN PSAC-WEST “PLAYER OF THE WEEK”

·        Senior forward Shay Godwin was the PSAC-West Player of the Week last week after helping the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week. She averaged 21.5 ppg, 18.5 rpg while shooting 51.6 percent (16 of 31) from the field and 78.6 percent (11 of 14) from the free-throw line. In an 86-41 win over Kutztown Saturday she had 18 points and a career-high 20 rebounds becoming only the 11th player in school history to have 20 rebounds in a game. She followed that performance up with a 25-points, 17-rebound game in an 82-73 win over West Chester Saturday. On the season, Godwin is averaging 15.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg. Both marks rank fifth in the PSAC. She also leads the PSAC with a 60.4 shooting percentage.

GOLDEN EAGLES 10-3 RECORD BEST SINCE 1993-94 TEAM STARTED 12-1

·        Clarion’s 10-3 start is the teams best in 11 years and marks only the fourth time in school history the Golden Eagles have had at least 10 wins after 13 games … The 1993-94 squad started 12-1, the second-best mark in school history behind the 13-0 start by the 91-92 team, The 1975-76 squad was 10-3 also. Clarion won PSAC-West titles in both the 1991-92 and 1993-94 seasons with the 93-94 team also winning the PSAC title.

FRESHMAN GRIMM RUNNING THE POINT LIKE A SEASONED VETERAN

·        Freshman point guard Ashley Grimm is playing like a seasoned veteran running the offense for Clarion. She ranks fourth in the PSAC in assists per game with 5.00. She is also scoring 5.4 ppg and grabbing 3.8 rpg. Her 24 steals are third on the team. Twice this season she has broken the 10 assist mark most recently with 10 in the win over Kutztown Saturday. She had a season-high 11 vs. West Virginia Tech.

PARSONS FOUR WINS SHY OF 350

·        Clarion head coach Margaret “Gie” Parsons is four wins shy of 350 in her career. Parsons is 346-269 in her 23rd season as a head coach including a 236-193 mark her 16th season at Clarion.

CIGICH CLIMBS RECORD BOOK LATTER

·        Senior forward Heather Cigich continues to climb the Clarion record-book latter … She ranks fourth in school history with 1,529 points, third with 965 rebounds, fifth with 208 steals and third with 72 blocks.

CLARION-SHIPPENSBURG SERIES

·        This is the fourth meeting in less than a year between these two schools and the third consecutive meeting in Shippensburg … Last season the team’s spilt the regular-season games winning on each other’s home court. Shippensburg won 66-62 at Clarion, and Clarion returned the favor winning 66-62 at Shippensburg in the regular-season finale. Ship took the most important game, though, winning 65-36 in the opening round of the PSAC Playoffs at Shippensburg. Clarion led 22-20 at halftime, but Ship won the 2nd half 45-14.

·        The teams have split the regular-season series the last three years with the most improbable Clarion win coming two seasons ago at Clarion when the Golden Eagles rallied from a 28-point deficit with 19 minutes to play to get a 78-75 win. Clarion used runs of 22-0 and 19-6 to complete that comeback.
