CLARION’S CIGICH NAMED PSAC-WEST CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK

            Clarion University senior Heather Cigich (Johnstown/Conemaugh Twp.) is the PSAC-West women’s basketball “Co-Player of the Week” for the week ending Feb. 5.

            Cigich displayed her versatility in a 2-0 week for the Golden Eagles. She averaged 16.0 points, 15.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists during the span.

            Against Edinboro Wednesday, Cigich shot 10-12 (83.3 percent) from the field while scoring a game-high 26 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.

            In the win over IUP Saturday, she shined in other aspects of her game pulling down 16 rebounds, dishing out seven assists and adding four steals while scoring six points.

            It is the second time this season Cigich has won the award, and it is the fifth award for Clarion this year all coming in the past five weeks.

            On the season, Cigich is averaging a team-high 16.2 ppg while tying for the team lead in rebounds (9.9 rpg). She has also added 63 assists, 16 blocks and 41 steals.

            She ranks fourth in school history in scoring (1,663), third in rebounding (1,039), fifth in steals (228) and third in blocks (79) in school history.

            Clarion is 18-3 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC-West this season and were ranked second in the East Region in last week’s poll (This week’s comes out Wednesday).

            The Golden Eagles return to action Monday (Feb. 7) when it hosts Shippensburg.
