| CLARION’S MELTON NAMED PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK | |

Clarion University junior Melba Melton (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) is the PSAC-West Player of the Week for the week ending with games Jan. 22. Melton played a key role in Clarion’s 71-59 win over defending national champion California, the No. 1 ranked team in the East Region and the sixth ranked team in the nation, Saturday by scoring 24 points, handing out five assists and collecting three steals. She also had a nice game in Clarion’s 87-51 win over Slippery Rock Wednesday scoring 16 points, dishing out four assists and coming up with three steals. For the week, she averaged 20 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals while helping the Golden Eagles improve to 16-3 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC-West. On the season, Melton is averaging 11.8 ppg, 4.89 apg and 2.21 spg. She ranks fifth in the PSAC in assists and 10th in steals. Clarion’s 16-3 record is the team’s best since the 1993-94 squad was also 16-3, while the 4-0 PSAC-West start is the best since the 1992-93 team started 7-0. Melton award marks the fourth straight week Clarion has had a PSAC-West Player of the Week. Shay Godwin won the award Jan. 10, Heather Cigich earned the honor Jan. 17 and Godwin notched her second award last week. |
