GOLDEN EAGLES CIGICH NAMED PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK |

Clarion University senior forward Heather Cigich (Johnstown/Conemaugh Twp.) is the PSAC-West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 16. Cigich helped the Golden Eagles (13-3 overall, 1-0 PSAC-West) to a 3-0 week including a 62-54 win at Shippensburg in the PSAC-West opener Wednesday. Heather averaged 20.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per contest off the bench while shooting 66 percent (23 of 35) from the floor and 94 percent (16 of 17) from the free-throw line. Her top point effort came at Shippensburg when she posted a season-high 28 points, She also had 19 points and five rebounds while shooting 7 of 8 in a 90-63 win at Mansfield Saturday, and chipped in 15 points and eight boards in an 84-51 win at East Stroudsburg Sunday. Cigich leads Clarion in scoring (16.9 ppg) and is second in rebounds (9.6 rpg) while ranking third in the PSAC in scoring and fourth in rebounding. In her career, Cigich is the fourth leading scorer in Clarion history with 1,591 points and the third leading rebounder with 985. She was a third-team Daktronics and Honorable Mention WBCA/Kodak and Division II Bulletin All-American last season. Cigich is the second consecutive PSAC-West Player of the Week for the Golden Eagles. Teammate Shay Godwin won the award last week. Clarion returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Lock Haven at 6 p.m. in the first home PSAC-West contest of the season. |
