CLARION’S GODWIN NAMED CO-PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Clarion University’s junior forward/center Shay Godwin (Dayton, Ohio/Colonel White) is the co-PSAC-West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending with games Feb. 1.
Godwin averaged 24.5 ppg and 13.0 rpg while shooting 62.5% from the field to help the Golden Eagles go 1-1 on the week. She scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in a 71-56 win over Lock Haven Wednesday and then contributed a career-high 29 points to go with 11 rebounds in just 29 minutes of action in Clarion’s last-minute 66-62 loss to Shippensburg Saturday.
On the season, Godwin, a transfer from Sinclair Community College, is averaging 15.9 ppg and 12.1 rpg and ranks sixth in the PSAC in scoring and first in rebounding. She has helped Clarion to a 10-9 overall and 2-3 PSAC-West record.
Clarion returns to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Edinboro.
NOTES – Godwin shared the award with California’s Becky Siembak, who averaged 17.5 ppg, 13 rpg, 3.5 apg and 2.5 spg during the week … Godwin’s award marks the fifth time this season a Golden Eagle has been named PSAC-West Player of the Week … Heather Cigich took home the previous four awards with her last POW coming Jan. 12.
